  21. well you stumped me. is this a external modem? im assuming so
  22. because you mentioned a breakout box. are any of the modem
  23. lights flashing when you stop recieving data (like the ARQ light?)
  24. did the other modems you try externals also? are you using the 
  25. standard (not so good) windows 3.1 comm driver? try using a differnt
  26. one. do you have a 16550 uart? are the fifos enabled? for further
  27. troubleshooting i would suggest you get on some local bulletin boards
  28. and try downloading a lot from them, maybe the isp is overloaded
  29. or something??
